My name is Bjarne and this is my Bikram Yoga story.
I started Bikram Yoga in Langley just over two years ago when my doctor recommended it after I pulled a hamstring. I had heard of Bikram Yoga already and was curious if it was for me. I had become very inflexible and often woke up with a sore back. I did not want to spend my middle age life dealing with injuries and realized I needed a new plan for my body. After taking my first class, I jumped right into Bikram Yoga and thought of it as a 90-minute sweating torture room. Luckily, I was quickly able to get past those thoughts and came to realize all the vast benefits of this yoga to the point where I now look forward to my meditation time in the hot studio.
I won't get into the scientific stuff, because I don't know it, but I will tell you how it has benefited me. Coupled with proper nutrition, I lost 30 lbs and reached my goal weight in 9 months and have maintained it ever since. My flexibility has improved. My balance and cardio has vastly improved for my job as a firefighter as well as for playing hockey in my spare time. The yoga lowers my stress and improves my ability to breathe properly. My posture is now better than ever.
As soon as I realized how this yoga was benefiting me, I convinced my wife Cheryl to try Bikram Yoga and she just completed a 30 day challenge in May. I completed a 30 day challenge in March and these challenges pushed us both to new personal levels in our practice. My two daughters are also Bikram Yoga members. Hayley is now 16 and loves it. Anica is only 9, does half classes, and always wants to join us for classes. So we have become a Bikram Yoga family. We have all been amazed at how nice all the staff have treated us.
The owner Candice, the teachers, and the counter staff are always offering tips, encouragement, and positive feedback to all of us. Thank you Bikram Yoga Langley for greatly improving my overall well-being and improving the health of my family.
