Before starting Bikram yoga, Don was one of those people who believed that yoga was only for flexible people. He then decided to be brave and try out a class only to find out that he was the perfect candidate for yoga. He had a curved spine with Kyphosis, bad knees, and a few screws loose upstairs. That first class in 2008 broke Don but also awakened him. He got hooked on the yoga after only a few classes and felt a real shift in his life. It truly was a mind body experience. Suddenly he was eating healthier, taking better care of himself, and even had a better handle on his brain and mental process. He attended Teacher Training in the Spring of 2010 for the Las Vegas session she he could share the many benefits of Bikram yoga.
A few months after Don started his practice, a teacher asked him what his favourite posture was or what posture he found the easiest. His response was “you mean some people find this easy?” He still feels that same way but really believes he has made some great progress in the postures and that a breakthrough is just around the corner waiting for him. In terms of least favourite posture, at one point Don would of said all of them but since they each stretch and twist his body he has succumb to them and learned to love them. However, it there was one in particular it would have to be Rabbit only because it chafes the top of his head. Why couldn’t the series of had a 27th posture for hair growth?
In class Don will encourage you, push you, and try to get you to work a little harder and find your personal best. He believes that most of us have no idea how good we really could be. As he gives that little push in class he also finds a way to make you smile a few times to lighten up the class and have a little fun.
Outside of the studio, you’ll find Don studying or searching for another bakery for something decadent to try out with the family. Ice cream will suffice in a pinch.
